So Why Gut Health?
As mums we are instinctively wired to put our little ones (and pretty much everyone else for that matter) on the top of the list, whilst we often don’t make it onto our own list at all. Juggling kids, work and an endless list of other commitments, sees us all too often reaching for caffeine, sugar and packaged foods to get through the day. Along with stress and sleep deprivation, this can wreak havoc on our gut health.
Did you know the health of our gut and the millions and trillions of bacteria that live within it, influences pretty much every function in our body – including energy, weight, immunity, hormones and even our emotional health. If your gut health is out of whack, your general wellbeing will likely be suffering too.
This course will take you on a journey to improve your general health and wellness, so you can feel lighter, calmer, and more balanced from inside out.
As well as the videos you will also be receiving an accompanying eBook full to the brim with delicious recipe suggestions designed to support your gut health and general wellness. And in the spirit of sharing I will also throw in an example meal plan. You will also have access to a closed Facebook group where you can ask questions relating to the course and get my expertise and support.

The dietary and lifestyle recommendations included in this course are what I consider to be the foundations to good gut function and health.
The content has been adapted from the Functional Medicine ‘5 R’s to Gut Healing Protocol’. I have created my own version built on my five years of functional testing and1-2-1 clinical and coaching experience, alongside my own health, healing, and motherhood adventure.

I’m Annie. I’m a Registered Nutritional Therapist who graduated from the College of Naturopathic Medicine (CNM) in Birmingham after 3 years of intensive studying, including over 200 supervised clinical hours. I am also a member of the British Association of Nutritional Therapists (BANT). I’m very proud to have this qualification although, to be honest, it’s not a true reflection of the work I do.
Over the past 6 years, I have gained diverse clinical experience, working with a variety of clients with a range of different and complex health conditions.
I use a functional medicine approach to health which often includes functional testing. I combine this cutting-edge nutritional science with my 10 years experience of working in support sectors for domestic violence, families, substance misuse and mental health.
Since having my little Bonnie Boo in 2016, I now place my focus on supporting other Mums.
My initial motivation was my own poor health and the struggles I came up against during my transition into motherhood.
Fast forward to now – and following a MASSIVE journey of personal growth, healing and self-discovery – I’m helping other mums cultivate health and happiness in their own lives. This is what Be You Mum is all about!
Motherhood for me presented opportunities to grow! It exposed the parts of me that needed a little extra understanding, love and nourishment and enabled me to acknowledge the needs of my whole self – mind, body, heart and spirit.
Food is massively important, it is medicine and information for the mind and body, however, there is more to my approach than just food.
Understanding yourself is the first step before change. I use a functional medicine approach to help you understand what’s going on beneath the surface. Working at the cause, as opposed to the effect.
Mindset – having a strategy is great, but it’s the lens through which we view that strategy that determines how successful it is! I have 15 years’ experience of coaching people from a variety of different backgrounds, life experiences and situations, and what I’ve learnt is that mindset really is where the magic happens. I believe in change; I believe in you!
Fun – feeling good is fun! Growth is fun – when you understand it. From my experience I see a lot of mums (including myself) consumed by the effect, the diagnosis – anxiety, overwhelm, depression, autoimmunity, exhaustion…the list goes on. When you start to look at your story, who you were before becoming a parent and looking within, as opposed to what’s on the surface, the pieces of the puzzle start to come together. This is empowering, transformational and FUN!
Can I do this course if I am trying to conceive, pregnant or breastfeeding? Yes, this course is diet and lifestyle focused. A healthy functioning gut can support your health at every point of your motherhood journey. Before making any changes to your diet it is advised you seek the advice from your medical professional.
Is this course suitable for vegan and vegetarians? Yes, however This is not a ‘plant based’ course and although plant based foods are essential in good gut health and immune function, I also advocate animal sources for gut health re-balancing. The recommendations in the course, including the meal plan example and recipe ideas include both plant based and animal nutrition sources.
Does the course include supplement recommendations? No, the course includes food and lifestyle recommendations which are considered to be the foundations to good gut health. Supplement recommendations are made following a full case history and based on individual needs. If this is something you feel you would benefit from there is the option to book a single 1-2-1 consultation with me to explore your individual health picture, get a tailored personalised plan to your needs which may include supplement and testing options.
I have been diagnosed with a health condition and am taking medication, is this course ok for me? Yes, dietary and lifestyle changes that support gut health can help improve chronic health symptoms however it is advised you take the advice before taking any dietary changes from you health professional/GP specifically regarding any contraindications with medication.
I want to lose a bit of weight, would this programme help me? This is not a weight loss programme but the function of our gut and balance of our gut microbiome has be researched to play a role in our metabolism and weight. Supporting your gut health can help shed you a few pounds and decrease water retention.
I have many allergies and intolerances, can I still join the programme? Yes, the menus and recipes are quite flexible however are not prescriptive. Those who suffer with multiple food intolerances and sensitivities can most definitely benefit from supporting their gut and immune health.
Are adverse side effects normal? In some cases, people can experience symptoms from changing their diet for example eliminating a certain food or drink and adding in certain foods such as fermented foods and fibre. These symptoms can be part of the ‘re-balancing’ process and should not be long lasting.
Is the course content and recommendations suitable for my family? Yes, absolutely. I am a mum myself and have created the course to support the health of the whole family. The material is colourful and visual so that it can be shared with your little/big ones.
How important is exercise? It is important to get your body moving. A gym membership is not essential. Short intervals of regular exercise is advised, suggestions in the course include; walking in nature, home based workouts, yoga, Pilates, resistance exercises.
What are my avenues of support during this programme? This course is video led by Annie Breen a registered nutritional therapist. General information will be delivered to you via these video modules and guided exercises. There is a closed Facebook group (Healthy Tum, Happy Mum) for any questions relating to the content of the course and for feedback. Any further questions and queries can be emailed to firstname.lastname@example.org
